In the days of old, Melaka was the historical gateway to South East Asia. People from every nation and tribe descended upon Melaka. Since September 2024, people from different nations and ethnic groups have been coming to Melaka through the call of God.
Among the recent events were the exhibition of the 200th anniversary of printing of the first Chinese Bible in Melaka in August, the “Bless Melaka Parade” on 19th October, and the “Bless Melaka Carnival” on 9th November.
Early last year, God called Pr Daniel Phua from Singapore to come back to Malaysia, the land of his birth, to walk with His people. Although he did not know anybody in the West Coast churches, God opened doors for him to connect with local key spiritual leaders. The network even extended to East Malaysia and Indonesia.
When he was in Melaka, a group of six pastors responded to his recommendation for a Melaka revival gathering. The organising committee grew to twelve ministers. As a fruit of this, three days of revival meetings were held from 21st-23rd November.
Day 1: Glory Night
As early as 4pm, harpists from KL ministered to the Lord with their music and singing for 3 hours in Wesley Methodist Church Melaka. Then, the congregation led by different local worship teams spent a glorious time of praise and worship until 10pm.
Day 2: Testimony & Sharing by Revival Giants
Three pioneers of revival were invited to share their testimonies and insight on Melaka in Christ Church Melaka or via Zoom meeting.
The first speaker was Pr Johann Makmur from Padang, Indonesia. 24 years ago, when he was praying in the watchtower, he was filled with the Holy Spirit. He started to cry and utter “Melaka, Melaka, Melaka!”. Not having been to Melaka, he was puzzled but knew it was a message that had beeen given to him. From that day onwards, every day he has been praying for Melaka. And he encourages people from other nations to pray for Melaka.
Pr Johann reminded us that God is a God of second chances. Two weeks after he was called into the full-time ministry, his house was burnt down by persecutors and one of his co-workers was killed in the fire. He wanted to run away from his calling and to leave the city but God confronted him with a message from Romans 8:28 through a senior minister. He decided to remain faithful to his calling and make up his mind to love, forgive, and even bless those who had burnt his house.
He began to witness church growth that took place in the city that was not open to the Gospel.
In 2009, their church building collapsed during an earthquake. As a result, they had to worship in a tent outside the building’s ruins. Despite the circumstances, more people were added to the church. Today, the congregation has grown from 40 to 2400 members.
Pr Johann stated that Melaka is God’s first love for the Peninsular Malaysia. His message for Melaka is “Extend the networking and build prayer towers together and everywhere in this city.”
The next speaker was Rev Solomon Bulan from Sarawak who was a first-hand witness of the Bario Revival in 1973. After sharing the testimony, he reminded that Melaka is one of the cities in God’s heart for Malaysia and He will heal the land of Melaka. The Spirit of God is hovering in Melaka. The revival comes when every one participates in worship.
The final keynote speaker was Rev Dr George Annadorai from Singapore. He used history to illustrate that whatever happens in Malaysia, it all began with Melaka. God has endowed Malaysia with her destiny of “Malaysia Truly Asia”.
Acts 17:26 (ESV)
And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place,
God is the one who decides when we appear in this world and where we will live. By His sovereign design, God had placed Chinese and Indians in the heart of Melaka to fulfill the destiny of this city, which became the gateway to the rest of Malaysia.
According to the biblical accounts in 2 Chronicles, the trading port of Melaka was most probably known to King Solomon three thousand years ago. Later, Melaka was the entry point of the Gospel of Jesus who is the descendant of David.
Jesus in the book of Revelation is coming back as the King of kings to rule over all nations and as the Lord of lords to restore all lands back to Him because He created them. As the end-time church, we can only make disciples of all nations when we know the destiny of the nations. All people from every ethnic group need to walk together to lift up Malaysia to fulfill its destiny and the hour has come for us to renew the land spiritually for Jesus.
Day 3: Power Night
The evangelistic healing event was held in Calvary Life Assembly Chinese Church. Rev Raymond Mui from KL preached a message based on John 5:3-9 (ESV)
3 In these lay a multitude of invalids—blind, lame, and paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water; 4 for an angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons into the pool, and stirred the water: whoever stepped in first after the stirring of the water was healed of whatever disease he had. 5 One man was there who had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?” 7 The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, and while I am going another steps down before me.” 8 Jesus said to him, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.” 9 And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked.
At the end of the sermon, Rev Raymond invited those who were suffering in the following three areas to stand up and put their hand(s) on the related body part(s):
1. Bone conditions connecting to muscles and nerves from shoulders to legs due to sickness or injuries.
2.Breathing difficuties, lung infections, or other respiratory problems.
3.Stomach upset or digestive problems.
After the miracle prayer, he urged those people to start doing something physically that they could not do before. He asked those who had experienced the instant healing to be tested by the workers and to go up to the stage to give a testimony of healing for Jesus’ glory.
A lady with tears of joy testified that she had received double healing. She could only breathe through one of her nostrils for 30 years. After the prayer, the other nostril was unblocked. Being a kindergarten teacher, she was the victim of a mischevious act and injured her coccyx. While she was lining up upon the stage, she realised that her tailbone was relocated to its original place, hence she would be spared from a surgery.
Another lady who had a gastric problem for 5 years and came with a bloated stomach sensed warmth in her stomach during the prayer. The symptoms of discomfort were gone and she believed that she was totally healed.
A man from KL who had suffered from a shoulder injury for 16 years due to a motorcycle accident could swing his arms freely and with no more pain. Prior to the healing, he went through steroid injections, years of monthly visits to the doctor for painkillers and weekly acupuncture. He praised the Lord for his recovered mobility.
Rev Raymond prayed another prayer of salvation for those who wanted to receive Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. Around twenty people responded.
What took place in Melaka in 2024 was the preparation for 2025 and the years to come. God wants us to ride on the waves of revival. We should not miss His visitation. May the work of God flourish and the word of God be preached with fire, power, anointing, grace and love.
