10 March by Timothy Tai CM-
Let’s face it. These are busy times we’re living in and everyone’s got their own list of things to do, people to meet and places to go today. Maybe you have to complete an assignment or prepare for a job interview. Or maybe you have a potential client to meet or an urgent errand that simply cannot wait until tomorrow.
But before you rush off to do all the things that you have planned for the day, allow me to share just one thought with you:
What if God had something important for you to do today?
Please note that I’m not talking about God’s will for your entire life here. Oftentimes when we talk about God’s will, we tend to think along the lines of ‘God, what is your will for my life?’ or ‘God, please tell me what’s going to happen in the next 5 to 10 years of my life’. But how many times do we actually stop and ask, “Lord, what is your will for my life today? What do you want me to do today?”
It’s such a simple question but one that we really need to ask Him on a daily basis. After all, let’s not forget that we have all been bought with a price and our lives are no longer our own (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Or as the apostle Paul so eloquently put it in Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”
Imagine what might happen if we woke up every morning and asked God what He wanted us to do that day?
For starters, God might want you to pour out your cares and troubles to Him so you won’t have to carry them all on your own.
Or He might want you to give up some wrong relationships or addictions that have been holding you in bondage.
Perhaps God will tell you to stand in the gap between the living and the dead by urgently praying for a family member whose life is in danger.
Or perhaps He will tell you to apologize and make reconciliation with someone that you’ve offended.
Remember the story of Mary and Martha? Maybe for some of you who live very busy and frenzied lives, God just wants you to be still and know that He is God.
Or maybe you’ll find out that He wants you to be the answer to someone else’s prayer by using your God-given gifts and resources to serve or bless them.
You could also discover that the most pressing thing that God wants you to do today is to draw near to Him by spending time with Him and worshiping Him.
Or maybe the most important thing that He wants you to do is just to play with your kids and talk to your spouse today.
At the end of the day, the truth of the matter is that tomorrow is not promised to any one of us. So before we dash headlong into the day, let’s just take a moment and ask God, the maker of heaven and earth, the Alpha and Omega:
“Lord, what do you want me to do today?”
Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness. – Psalm 143:10 (NKJV)
