When you first meet Dr. Peggy C. Wong, you may see the polished professionalism of a successful banker, global entrepreneur, Harvard alumna, philanthropist, and author. But spend more time with her, and you will quickly notice what truly drives her: not wealth, not accolades, but people – and more specifically, people’s eternal worth before God.

Dr Peggy C Wong

For all her achievements, Dr. Wong is known just as much for her compassionate works of charity. She carries herself with grace and warmth, treating people she meets – whether world leaders or children in poverty – with the same compassion and attentiveness.

Her life is a powerful witness that success in the marketplace does not need to lead to self-absorbed indulgence. While she has built businesses and served on prestigious boards, her deepest investments are in people – sharing the gospel, lifting the poor both spiritually and physically, and building up lives. Her faith and her works flow seamlessly together.

It is this rare mix of wisdom and warmth that has shaped both her ministry and her writing. Her latest book, One on One Personal Evangelism, is more than a manual. It is the fruit of years spent sitting with people in their joys and sorrows, helping them encounter the living Christ in deeply personal ways.

Healing Brokenness Beyond the Boardroom

Dr. Wong’s life began far from the corporate boardrooms she once occupied. Born in Ipoh, she grew up in a family of givers. Her grandfather was a Chinese physician who offered free medicine to migrant workers who had come to Malaysia for work. He also started a feeding program for beggars, providing two meals a day. Her father carried on this legacy, offering free medical care and feeding the poor, while also initiating and building Chinese schools in Perak. “Generosity,” she often says, “is in my DNA”.

A graduate in Economics from the University of Malaya (who later completed the Owner President Management program at Harvard University), she carved out a successful career in banking and business. She founded her own group of companies in Malaysia and Singapore, involved in joint ventures, investments, and strategic alliances. Throughout her career, she has been privileged to work alongside academicians, royalty, captains of industry, and high net worth individuals – many of whom form her loyal network of friends and associates today. She also served as the Charter President of the Kiwanis Club of Bukit Bandaraya, was a member of the Kuala Lumpur Speakers’ Club, a former Panel Advisor to the Women’s Institute of Management, a life member of the Harvard Alumni of Malaysia, and a member of the prestigious Corporate Malaysia Roundtable think-tank.

Despite her many accomplishments and credentials, Dr. Wong remains approachable and full of empathy. Her compassion was deeply stirred when she met children from desperately poor backgrounds – some surviving on just one meal a day, others walking for hours to reach school, and still others carrying their shoes on their backs to preserve them until they stepped into the classroom.

Moved by these stories, she founded Living Hope Malaysia in 2007, a voluntary organization that has since reached hundreds of thousands of underprivileged children. Today, it is a registered NGO and a beacon of hope for poor, needy, and marginalized children across Malaysia and beyond. Its mission is clear: to be “the voice of the unheard cries” and to break the cycle of poverty through feeding and education.

Living Hope Malaysia

Living Hope’s work spans a range of programs designed to meet both immediate needs and long-term growth:

One Egg–One Child Feeding Programme – providing daily meals for
children from hardcore poor families.

Educate a Child Programme – equipping students with uniforms, shoes, bags, stationery, and school fee support.

Channel of Hope Distribution – supplying food and essential items directly to needy families.

Toy and Book Library Programme – giving children access to books, games, and learning resources.

Education Resource Centres – creating safe spaces where marginalized children can read, learn, and gain computer skills.

So far, Sarawak has 75 such libraries, Sabah 40, and Peninsular Malaysia 14 — all supported by Living Hope.

Looking ahead, Dr. Wong envisions creating Safe Havens – community spaces for dysfunctional families, single parents, and their children to find not only assistance but also love, care, and support. For her, the answer remains the same: education and compassion as the true path to transformation.

Even during economic downturns, when donor contributions become scarce, she presses forward. “It’s going to be harder this year,” she once said, “but we will persevere and even leap further for the sake of the children and their families.” Her words reflect who she is – down-to-earth, realistic, and unwavering in both faith and determination.

Evangelism at the Core

Yet Dr. Wong’s mission extends beyond social action. Evangelism, for Dr. Wong, is not about loud proclamations or debates. As much as she longs to see children fed and educated, her deepest burden is to see people encounter the eternal hope of Christ.

Evangelism is not an occasional effort for her – it is her lifestyle. Whether sitting with grieving diplomats, visiting patients in hospitals, or befriending struggling traders, she makes time for personal, Spirit-led conversations that draw people toward Jesus.

It is this passion that led her to write One on One Personal Evangelism. Endorsed by Christian leaders such as Dennis Balcombe, Dr. Chew Weng Chee, and Dr. Timothy Sng, the book provides a Spirit-filled, practical framework for believers who long to share their faith more effectively.

One on One Personal Evangelism

Dr. Wong emphasizes that evangelism is not about formulas but about authentic relationships. Built on kindness, love, care, and compassion, her approach reflects the heart of Christ. She describes evangelism as a partnership: believers stand as bridges between the authority of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit. Using an architectural metaphor, she likens these two to twin towers, joined by the bridge of personal witness.

The book comes alive through testimonies of transformed lives:

Aunty Lai Heng, a devout Buddhist whom Dr. Peggy visited after she was in an accident that required a hip replacement, encountered the love of Christ during her recovery. After her surgery, her Christian helper’s family came to pray for her. Dr. Peggy shared the gospel with her, and Aunty Lai Heng accepted Christ. She has since found comfort in listening to her audio Bible.

Nancy Khoo, a hardened trader broken by the betrayal of a spouse and forced to raise her son alone, coped with her pain by smoking, cursing, and gambling. Dr. Peggy began buying clothes from her to bless others, and their relationship grew into a friendship. Through kindness, Nancy’s heart softened, and she surrendered to Jesus.

Maite M., South Africa’s first ambassador to Malaysia appointed by President Nelson Mandela, was grieving the loss of family members when she encountered Dr. Peggy. In one Spirit-led moment, she found healing and salvation, and became a strong advocate for God. She later went on to serve as the Minister of International Relations for South Africa and as an ambassador for Christ, boldly sharing her faith with others.

Each moving account underscores Dr. Wong’s conviction that evangelism is not a formula but a relationship – one where genuine empathy opens the door to truth. These are not abstract ideas but lived realities, stories of people whose lives have been permanently transformed by the gospel.

The Consistency of Dr Peggy’s Witnessing

What sets Dr. Wong apart is the consistency of her witness. Whether in the halls of power or in the homes of the forgotten poor, she embodies the same values: compassion, generosity, and the boldness to speak about Jesus. Her life challenges us to see evangelism not as a program but as a way of life. She has been honored with awards — “Woman of Vision” in her home state of Perak, the “Woman of Excellence” award in Selangor, and even an honorary doctorate for her humanitarian work — but her joy remains rooted in something far humbler: the smile of a child who once went hungry, the tears of someone discovering God’s love for the first time.

One on One Personal Evangelism is more than a book – it is an invitation. It calls believers to move beyond hesitation and fear into a Spirit-led, relational approach to sharing the gospel.

A Book to Carry into Daily Life

For Christians wondering how to share their faith naturally, without pressure or performance, Dr. Wong’s One on One Personal Evangelism offers both encouragement and practical wisdom. It reassures us that God can use our ordinary conversations, our acts of kindness, and even our quiet presence to draw others toward His eternal love.

Dr. Peggy C. Wong’s story is one of remarkable contrasts: a banker who chose people over profit, a philanthropist who invests in eternity, and an evangelist who shows that the gospel is most powerful when lived out one relationship at a time.

Through Living Hope Global, she continues to meet the physical needs of children. Through One on One Personal Evangelism, she equips believers to meet the spiritual needs of the world. And through her own life, she demonstrates that to follow Christ is to live generously, courageously, and compassionately. Her stories remind us that the gospel is still changing lives in ways that no human strategy could orchestrate.

This is not a book to sit on a shelf. It is one to carry into daily life, to pray through, and to practice. If your heart longs to be more effective in making Christ known, One on One Personal Evangelism is a book worth reading.
