Psalm 67 – Our God always blesses us first
(Written by Vergis Mathew)
Our God so graciously first blesses us with the favour of His face shining upon us. This enables us to know His ways and also to bring the good news of salvation and deliverance to all the nations of the whole world. That is why this passage is sometimes called a missionary Psalm. (vv. 1-2).
After such unmerited rich blessings and favours from God, let us always remember to give Him the praises He so rightly deserves. The biggest gift Christ bestowed upon us was the shedding of His own blood and His death on the cross, though He was sinless. He then rose on the third day and lives within us. Hallelujah. This gives cause for all peoples of all nations including the pagans to continually praise him (v.3).
Let us be glad and continue to sing, remembering that God rules all people with absolute fairness and wisdom, as only He can (v.4). The same wording in this verse as in verse 3. Repetition in scripture highlights emphasis. So let us continue to praise Him, hand in hand collectively, with the whole world (v.5).
As we carry on praising God, He continuously blesses us by giving us bumper harvests, clear evidence of His approval for our unceasing praise and total submission (v.6).
We continue to approach His throne of grace for still more blessing. The aim being to bring His message of salvation to the ends of the earth, leading to our total reverence and submission to Him, in preparation for His return to Jerusalem and His rule from His throne there (v.7).
Like in Genesis 26, may our evangelism harvest be like that of Isaac when he reaped a hundredfold even in a foreign land. Our blessings come from Him and Him alone. Blessings received MUST be shared before they multiply thirty fold or sixty fold or a hundred fold.
Let’s Read Psalm 67
For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A psalm. A song.
1 May God be gracious to us and bless us
and make his face shine on us —
2 so that your ways may be known on earth,
your salvation among all nations.
3 May the peoples praise you, God;
may all the peoples praise you.
4 May the nations be glad and sing for joy,
for you rule the peoples with equity
and guide the nations of the earth.
5 May the peoples praise you, God;
may all the peoples praise you.
6 The land yields its harvest;
God, our God, blesses us.
7 May God bless us still,
so that all the ends of the earth will fear him.
Let’s Pray
Lord, what a blessing, to bow at your feet. We know that all blessings and favours come from you. Therefore, we ask that you continuously bless us a hundredfold. May we worship and praise You unceasingly. We are so thankful for Your forgiveness and assurance of sharing eternity with You in Heaven.
While on earth, we still seek your favour in spreading your message of salvation and deliverance to all peoples and all nations. May we never slow down in this task that you have given us. Lord please grant us bountiful harvests. In your name we pray, Amen.
