The psalmist exhorts the nations and peoples of the earth to appear like a vast choir united in one voice to bring forth the praises of our great God. It’s an invitation for the nations and peoples to lift up their hearts and voices in worship and honour to the Lord. A scene of a multitude of such magnitude harks back to what the beloved apostle John wrote in Revelation 7:9 where he writes, “I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb.”
There’s a prophetic flavor to such a call by the psalmist who possibly with the eye of faith saw the salvation of Jesus Christ to be offered to all nations and peoples, both Jews and Gentiles. The inspiration for the outpouring of praises is predicated on the demonstration of God’s love through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross. Just as His love is great, so is God’s faithfulness to His people like new mercies each morning and abounding forevermore.
In the light of the exhortation to sound forth the praises of our Lord and to declare with thankfulness His love and faithfulness to us, the psalmist emphasizes in just one short proclamation an imperative that is profound and compelling, Praise the Lord!
Let’s Read Psalm 117
1 Praise the LORD, all you nations; extol Him, all you peoples. 2 For great is His love toward us, and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD.
Let’s Pray
O Lord, our hearts are ever thankful and grateful for Your love towards us displayed through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ on Calvary’s cross. From the very depths of our hearts and vaults of our souls, we lift up praises only to You and You alone.
Your faithfulness is like the rising of the sun with new mercies each morning. Should the sun not ever rise, yet Your faithfulness is eternal. We therefore burst into a rhapsody to extol You, O Lord, and pray that the candid symphony from our mortal lips will be rapturous in Your ears – Praise the Lord! In Jesus’s Name. Amen.

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrew 4:12 NKJV)
