Heavenly Devotion: Psalm 114 – Praise The Almighty God Who Delivers His People

Psalm 114 – Praise The Almighty God Who Delivers His People

(by Elder Chia Eng Chuan)

The psalmist retells the awesome deeds of God for His chosen people and pens these visually captivating and undeniable miracles in poetry rich with imagery. In a nutshell, verses 1 and 2 summarizes the story of the Exodus and the establishment of Israel as a nation in the Promised Land. God delivered the Jews from the lowliest and most miserable status as slaves in Egypt and elevated them to the highest status ever – a nation that God identifies as His very own and where He delights to dwell.

Let’s Read Psalm 114

1 When Israel came out of Egypt,
Jacob from a people of foreign tongue,
2 Judah became God’s sanctuary,
Israel his dominion.
3 The sea looked and fled,
the Jordan turned back;
4 the mountains leaped like rams,
the hills like lambs.
5 Why was it, sea, that you fled?
Why, Jordan, did you turn back?
6 Why, mountains, did you leap like rams,
you hills, like lambs?
7 Tremble, earth, at the presence of the Lord,
at the presence of the God of Jacob,
8 who turned the rock into a pool,
the hard rock into springs of water.

Let’s Pray

Our Heavenly Father, we praise and worship You because You are the Awesome and Almighty God. There is no other. We are touched and grateful that You love us, even though we are so undeserving. We thank You for Your grace, that You are always there to receive us back into Your loving arms when we fall into sin. We rejoice and tremble in awe for all that You have done for us and will continue to do in us. in Jesus’ most precious and exalted name, Amen!
