Psalm 1 – Whatever they do prospers
There are two paths of life – a faithful life in obedience to God that leads to fruitfulness, or a faithless life in self-indulgence that leads to destruction. Be careful not to be influenced by your friends, but to choose God’s path of life and to have God’s Word in our hearts.
Psalm 1
1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
4 Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6 For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.
Prayer:
Dear God, help us to meditate on Your Words day and night, to spend time reading and thinking about Your Words. As I want to follow You closely, give me wisdom to understand Your Words, so that I can live according to Your way. I trust that You will watch over the way of the righteous, and You will bless me like a tree planted by streams of water which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Prosper me in whatever I do so that I can be Your witness to the world. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen!
