Over the years, I have seen some people shy away from coming to know God because they think that God is mad at them, and that they don’t deserve His love. However, the Bible says that God is love, and these misconceptions about God being angry at us needs to be corrected.
I have done such terrible things that God couldn’t possibly forgive me!
Each one of us have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. No one is sinless, and we all felt guilty at times. However, when we keep guilt for too long, especially when we have been forgiven, guilt will turn to shame, and this will ultimately cause us to withdraw from God’s presence. We need to understand that God completely forgives. He doesn’t forgive a little bit and hold on to a part of our sin. He forgives COMPLETELY. The word of God also says that Satan is an accuser (verse) He remembers every tiny little thing that we have ever done wrong and will do his best to remind us of them every chance he gets. He aims for us to be so ashamed that we are unable to receive God’s love for us.
God will never accept me as I am.
Remember the song that goes ‘Jesus take me as I am, I can come no other way’? We need to come to go as who we are. No doubt, reading and meditating on God’s word will bring changes to our characters, but at this very moment, we can only go to God as who we are. The Bible is a record of sin, deceit, and immorality of every kind. However, it also records God’ amazing grace and love. The Bible heroes we read about were ordinary like us, and they also failed miserably like us. Still, God loved, accepted, forgave and gave mercy to them. He had intimate relationships with them, and empowered them to do great things despite what they have done.
We too can experience God’s acceptance. Never ever think that you are not good enough for God to accept you. God doesn’t approve of sin, but He does love us. And He loves us not because of who we are or the great successes we have achieved. Instead, it is simply because He loves us.
My own father was mad at me, so God must be mad at me too
It would be quite natural to view our Father in heaven as an angry person if our own dads were angry. I was rather lucky in this area – my dad was loving, and he showed his love through hugs, kisses and cuddles. I felt safe whenever he was around, and I knew I could go to him whenever I was in trouble. However, children who grow up in homes where dads are angry, absent, or abusive do not feel same. More often than not they feel insecure, unloved and in danger.
God is not like people. While you have had an abusive dad, you need to know that God will never leave you (verse) No matter what has happened in the past, do not let it ruin your life and make a decision to believe that your heavenly Father loves you so very dearly.
God is not mad at you. If it weren’t for the grace of God, God would have to be angry with us beacue His holiness demands justice for sin. However, He made had made the sacrifice to atone for sin by offering His Son’s life for ours. Jesus has taken the punishment that we deserve for our sins, and offers to bless us instead of giving us what we truly deserve. God’s attitude to us is merciful, not angry. This does not mean that we can continue in our sinful ways. This just means that if we slip and fall, and fail time and again, God will still never stop loving us. Remember Psalm 145:8 ‘The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and abounding in mercy and loving-kindness’.
