God came to set us free! – Reverend Titus Soo, Ellel Ministries Singapore

Ellel Ministries is a healing and deliverance ministry, which began in England in 1986 and is now established in over 20 countries around the world. In Malaysia, there are three Ellel centres at KL/Klang Valley, Penang and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

“The reality is that there’re people going to church who’re still in bondage. We still carry many unresolved issues that will not go off overnight,” said Reverend Titus Soo, Centre Director of Ellel Singapore, who started Ellel Singapore in year 2005. “The Church talks about evangelism. Yet the Great Commission is about disciple-making.”

In making disciples, ‘healing and deliverance’ is pivotal in setting people free from the vicious cycles of addictions or bondages. As believers in Christ, we are called to be free (John 8:36), without the ‘sin that so easily entangles’ (Hebrews 12:1). Only when we are free, we can fully pursue and live in the destiny that God has for each of us.

Sin does not rob us off our salvation, but sin breaks our fellowship with God and His blessings in our life, shared Reverend Titus. Most of all, sin gives the devil, a legal right to affect our lives. When we practice sin, we are choosing to be slaves to sin (John 8:34). Essentially, we become slaves to the one we obey (Romans 6:16). This gives the devil a ‘foothold’ in our lives (Ephesians 4:27), when we do not quickly confess and turn away from our sin. In other words, when we sin without repentance and confession, the devil can affect us in that particular area of sin in our lives.

However, Scripture says that ‘if we confess our sin, he (God) is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness’ (1 John 1:9). All of us have sinned (Romans 3:23). In fact, if we say that we are without sin, we are only deceiving ourselves (1 John 1:9). That’s why foreseeing this, Jesus taught his disciples to pray, “Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors’ (Matthew 6:12)”. Note that this is part of the prayer where we ask God for our daily bread. That means we are to ask God to daily forgive us as well. Part of this prayer is also, “Deliver us from the evil one” (Matthew 6:13). Hence, healing and deliverance should not be a one-time life event, but a daily practice of a Christian believer. Forgiveness, healing and deliverance should be part of a daily lifestyle of a believer in Christ.

“But because many of us are uninformed, we don’t know what to do with our bondages or wage spiritual warfare. We become swept by whatever current that comes.” Fortunately, the Word of God offers us many skills and tools to fight spiritual battles. A weapon of offense to the enemy, the Word is rightly called as ‘the sword of the Spirit’ (Ephesians 6:17). Not only that, the Word also brings conviction to our hearts by judging the thoughts and attitudes of our hearts (Hebrews 4:12). Recognizing that the Word of God is inseparable from healing and deliverance, Ellel Ministries is firmly built on the solid foundation of The Word. ‘You will now the truth, and the truth will set you free’ (John 8:32).

Indeed, healing and deliverance is of utmost importance of a church to function in a wholesome and vibrant manner, breaking the chains of bondage over our lives. The Church needs to rise up in healing and deliverance! Following the concept of a ‘teaching hospital’, Ellel Ministries heal and deliver their participants, and train them to do the same to others. God wants to set His children free! The question is: are you ready to be free? ‘If the Son (Jesus Christ) sets you free, you will be free indeed’ (John 8:36).
