A Conversation with Apostle Julius Suubi – Coming to Malaysia Part 1

12 Oct 2013 by Donna Uning CM-

Most people know him as the Prayerful Man, many identify him with the ‘fire, fire, fire,’ song; and some recognize him as a preacher, teacher, author, father and son. Who is Ps Julius Suubi? One thing is sure, he is a very busy man. Getting hold of him to sit down for an interview seems almost like a lost cost, but is never actually impossible.

Apostle Julius Suubi or Ps Suubi (as many here call him), have been in ministry since 1996. In the last few years, he has been to Malaysia numerous times with his intercessory ministry, Highways of Holiness Ministries International. During his last visit to Kuching in August 2013, he shared in one of the biggest inter-denominational gathering of pastors and churches in the city. In this first part of the interview, he talks about coming to Malaysia.

In 2010, Ps Suubi received a Word from God to start an intercessory ministry that would intercede for nations. The conviction was for nations to receive a powerful revival or go through difficult times.

“We decided to commit ourselves to come and mobilize Malaysia to rise and pray. When I came around here, through a series of divine connections, I was able to move through Ps Grace and other people and I began to understand more about Malaysia,” he shared.

Ps Suubi has been to Malaysia many times since then, but why Kuching? “Now, the reason for my coming to Kuching, East Malaysia, was because all the revivals that have broken out in this nation had taken place in East Malaysia.  So the Lord spoke to me to visit the places of covenant, where revivals are breaking out in Malaysia, because those revivals are keys for Revival to come to Malaysia again,” he continued. Soon after, Ps Suubi, along with Ps Grace went to Bario last year “to re-dig the wells of revival.” They also visited Kota Kinabalu, where revival also happened.

“Specifically, the reason for our coming to this part of East Malaysia, that is Kuching, is because the revivals that are breaking out in this nation began in this part of the world,” he said and the key for Malaysia to experience revival again is from here. “So that is the reason why we are here.”

What is the strongest conviction or message that you have for the people here at this moment?

“What I feel is the church need to rise up in prayer and intercession. I found out from the pastors who have been standing in the gap for this city, that for years, there has been a need for churches to unite and work together,” he told, adding, “and not for pastors and churches to just focus on their churches but to focus on the nation.” God wants to revive this nation and transform it, but this is going to be achieved through the unity of churches.

“And so, you realize that the people, who are in this part of the world, who have been involved in the former revivals that have been breaking out in this place are from amongst the uneducated people,” he believes. The pastor explained the need to reach out more to this group because they also hold a key of revival for this nation in order “to stop the element of wickedness that has been eating up this part of the world.”

“The historical heart of the population of Christianity here was very high but over the years had gone down, so the church needs to work together, they need to rise up in intercession and prayer,” he told and reminded of the need to not just look at individual churches but also to look at the entire nation. “Because God is the God of nations,” he continued. “As the church starts to focus on the destiny of the nation, that is, the destiny of Malaysia, the churches will begin to fulfill their individual destinies, which is their individual callings and assignments that God has given them.”

The destiny of your church is attached to the destiny of your nation, he told. “You won’t be able to operate in your calling fully until your nation is also moving in the calling that God has placed upon it,” he said.  “Our coming here is to stir up the church, so the church can rise up, and we are also here to challenge the church because as you can see, my country Uganda  has experienced transformation and Kenya is also now on the road to national transformation.

“Before transformation came, the strategy that the Lord gave us in Uganda was to raise up five altars,” he told, explaining about the five kinds of altars that had been mentioned in many of his messages for Malaysia. Through these altars, we can transform a nation.

The first altar is the personal altar, or the personal revival.

The second is the family altar where prayer needs to take place at the family level. God is the God of families and all people that come to church comes from a family. “So family altars covenant family members to have a special relationship with God,” he said.

Third is the church altar. “The bible says my house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations, so we see the church rising up in prayer,” he speaks concerning prayer in deep intercession. “Effectual fervent prayer,” he explained.

Fourth is the territorial altar, “Like what you’ve been having here this week,” he said. The churches of Kuching had been in a week-long prayer leading to the national day at the time. Over 2000 people and over 25 churches gathered to raise up a territorial altar. “That territorial altar has a lot of power over the territory,” he said of the repentance and declarations from the churches that has become a powerful, territorial voice. The principalities and powers of darkness recognize that powerful voice, he told.

The last one is the national altar. This is where people come together (maybe) twice a year from different parts of Malaysia to pray and make prophetic declarations concerning their nation.  They come from different territories to become a national voice. “So they can address the nation and people can hear from different territories,” he said.

In between the prayer requests, photo sessions and greetings, the interview finally took place backstage at Blessed Church after the Sunday service. The second interview continues with a personal side of Ps Suubi where he shares about his family, food, and yes, he has a hobby.
