The spiritual outpouring that began at Asbury University in the U.S. in 2023 was not merely a fleeting campus phenomenon. It was a global spiritual shift ignited by “humility, repentance, and authentic worship,” spreading rapidly through digital media.

Today, three years later (2026), this fire is resting upon the land of Malaysia in a different way – not as a replica of the form, but as a re-digging of the ancient wells of revival.

From a student-led worship culture to the formation of transnational intercession networks; From Hughes Auditorium in Kentucky to the churches of Perak; From obedience to personal visions to the convergence of national prayer—

None of this is coincidence; it is a divine orchestration by God, met with human alignment. Revival is not an event, but an unfolding journey. And Malaysia stands right now at a critical juncture of this journey.

From the Hughes Auditorium to the Wells of Malaysia (2023–2026)

The spiritual “nuclear explosion” that began on February 8, 2023, at Asbury University was never intended to be a local event. Three years later, we are seeing that the 16-day “Asbury Outpouring” was merely the first tremor of a global shift. Today, the fire has crossed the oceans, landing in the heart of Malaysia to “redig” the ancient wells of revival.

The Three-Year Institutional Legacy

As of 2026, the data confirms that Asbury was a catalyst for sustained revival and growth, that has shifted focus from its original location in Wilmore to the “carriers” who have spread its influence globally. But more importantly, it established a ‘new normal’ where student-led worship and simplicity took center stage as the primary expression of faith. This first “digitally fueled” revival bypassed traditional denominational structures via TikTok and Instagram. Yet, it remains anchored in the hallmark of “Radical Humility” – characterized by acoustic worship, a lack of celebrity preachers, and a profound commitment to public confession and authentic spiritual growth. This same spirit of simplicity is now the cornerstone of movements across 260 colleges across America, numerous “revival hubs” in Asia, and worldwide.

After the Asbury revival, the sustained impact at Asbury University is undeniable, marked by a surge in enrollment and the largest freshman class in a quarter-century. However, the true transformation lies in the student culture; the atmosphere remains expectant as students shift
from seeking a spiritual “high” to pursuing long-term holiness. This includes deep-seated desires to break addictions to pornography and phones, moving toward what campus leaders describe as authentic, long-term steps in their spiritual journey rather than just temporary encounters.

Asbury President Dr. Kevin Brown stated that the university had “over 50 groups go to different ministries and churches, both in the United States and overseas,” to share their experiences following the revival. International hubs like the “Sitiawan Revival Hub” in Malaysia serve as
bases for ongoing meetings. From London’s KXC reporting a “season of gentle outpouring” to Pete Greig’s 24-7 Prayer movement seeing a rise in expectancy across 25,000 global prayer rooms covering more than 70 nations, the hunger is growing. In Kuala Lumpur, Holy Trinity Bukit Bintang (HTBB) and the Arise Asia conference have hosted events to share these
firsthand accounts, activating thousands of Asian students to seek a continental awakening.

The Prophetic Bridge: Rev. Dr. Leow Hong Too

The connection between Kentucky and Malaysia is personified in Rev. Dr. Leow Hong Too. After receiving God’s call to pray for Asbury and world revival – initially in Malaysia and then as boots on the ground in Wilmore, Kentucky – Rev. Dr. Leow Hong Too was told by God to leave just before the move broke out so that ‘no man would be proudful. Exactly seven years from his first prophetic dream about the Asbury Revival, a revival witnessed worldwide broke out.

In a profound display of “audacious obedience,” the 3,000-seat sanctuary of Shekinah Methodist Church (SMC) in Manjung, Perak, has emerged as a Malaysian focal point for spiritual renewal. Coordinated by what many describe as a divine appointment, there is a distinct “intercessory movement” linking Singaporean and Malaysian intercessors (like Pastor
Daniel Phua) to pray “boots on the ground” specifically for a similar outpouring on Malaysian soil. This synchronicity was vividly realized in February 2023 when a distinct “intercessory movement” – linking Singaporean and Malaysian intercessors such as Pastor Daniel
Phua – saw prayers begin on the exact day the Asbury Revival ignited in Kentucky.

Coordinated by what many describe as a divine appointment, this alignment signals a “redigging” of spiritual wells that Rev. Dr. Leow Hong Too now champions globally. That year Shekinah Methodist Church (SMC) in Manjung, Perak, saw its 3,000-seat sanctuary packed to capacity with nearly 3,000 in-person attendees and thousands more online – fulfilling a
specific dream the legendary Dr. John Sung had in 1940.

SPARK 2025

This revival has found a unique home within the Malaysian Indian community. Small in number (comprising 6.5% of the population), this community has stepped into a leadership role that is shifting the spiritual atmosphere.

On March 1st, 2025, SPARK 2025 brought together Indian Christians to lead one of the largest national prayer gatherings in Malaysia’s history. The “hunger” for this move of God was visible long before the sun rose; believers from across the nation demonstrated a sacrificial spirit,
with many waking in the midnight hours to board buses as early as 2:00 AM. These busloads of intercessors traveled from various states across Malaysia, arriving under the cover of darkness to ensure they were present the moment the meeting began. This was not just an event; it was the “redigging” of the well of reconciliation, breaking racial and denominational
barriers to usher in a profound spirit of national unity.

The Road to Merdeka 70 (2027)

Rev Dr. Leow and local leaders are now looking toward 2027 – the 70th Merdeka of Malaya – as a year of total spiritual launch. The message is urgent: the revival is not just “coming”; it is moving toward us, and we must prepare.

Malaysia has been chosen as your rainbow nation, a nation to be truly Asian… the revival is coming towards us, and the persecution will follow. Let him who has ears, hear and obey.” — Rev. Dr. Leow Hong Too
