HOW DOES PRAISE & WORSHIP SHIFT CIRCUMSTANCES?

Why do we have a Global Day of Worship?

There are so many wonderful reasons to express love and worship for Jesus, from His beauty and worthiness to us being what we were created to be—as worshippers. Nevertheless, as we approach the final month of The Global Day of Worship on 12th December (12.12.12.), I want to highlight two reminders of why we worship.

First, we worship because He is worthy!

You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being (Rev. 4:11).

We don’t need anything else but the revelation of Jesus! Along with the angels, 24 elders and living creatures around the throne, we worship because He is worthy (Rev. 4:10-11).

Second, we worship because the power of Heaven comes when we exalt the Lord Jesus.

And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambush against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten (II Chron. 20:22).

This period was a critical time in the history of Israel. Greatly outnumbered by their conjoined enemy nations, Jehoshaphat (ruler of Judah) feared for his nation and seek the Lord. He proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. And the spirit of the LORD came upon one of the Levites, who prophesied that God would give them victory. They would not even need to fight it! Singers were appointed to worship the LORD, and as they sang praises, God fought for Judah and defeated their enemies.

This story teaches us that in time of warfare—be it temptations, trials, obstacles—we can be victorious by praising and worshipping God!

Another example would be Paul and Silas in prison.

And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed (Acts 16:25-26).

Instead of feeling discouraged, depressed, angry and abandoned, Paul and Silas took their eyes off their circumstances and began to worship! With hands and feet bound by chains, they lifted their voice in adoration! And what was the result? God came to their rescue in physical manifestation. The foundations of the prison were shaken. Doors opened. And all were set free.

Praise and worship shifts everything because we make Jesus the Lord over that circumstance.

Yet You are holy, O You who are enthroned upon he praises of Israel. In You our fathers trusted; They trusted and You delivered them. To You they cried out and were delivered; In You they trusted and were not disappointed. (Psalms 22:3-5)

During our time of instability and shaking throughout the world, the only solid foundation to put our faith, trust and adoration in is our Lord Jesus. As we worship together this coming 12.12.12, let us enthrone the Lord over the nations, as ONE voice, ONE body of Christ!

Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all (Ephesians 4:3-6).

Mark your calendars to worship and pray to God on 12.12.12. Together, we can make and witness a difference.
