Petaling Jaya, May 5 (Thursday) – A business integrity conference jointly-organised by the Coalition for Business Integrity and various chambers of commerce and industry on May 18, will help the private sector to address issues of corruption in the supply chain in the era of globalisation.<\/span><\/p>\n

This, according to its organising chairman, Mark Chay is in response to a recent survey by CBI and IDEAS that showed how the cost of goods and services in the country has escalated as a result of corruption in the supply chain.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMost business practitioners are oblivious to the damaging effect of bribery and corruption to the livelihood of the public and image of the country,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn the era of globalization, jurisdictions around the world have already put in place legislations to address cross border corruption in line with the United Nations Global Compact.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Recently, with the escalating prices of food, the B40 community is the worst hit. \u201cTherefore, addressing the governance and integrity issues affecting the supply chain is key to solving the problem of inflation,\u201d he added.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The half-day conference to be held at Dream Centre, Petaling Jaya will provide an insight into this arena with the sharing of success stories that will inspire the business operators in the marketplace.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Among the key speakers is Tam Wah Fiong, entrepreneur-turned-<\/span>pastor whose printing business has been thriving in the country. Currently, Chairman of Thumbprints Utd. Sdn. Bhd, Tam believes strongly in doing business with integrity.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Thumbprints\u2019 delivery vans still carry the slogan \u201cZero Corruption.\u201d His story is one that will amaze people who he managed to build a strong business in the printing industry despite pressures to succumb to all sorts of corruption.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Another speaker is one of Malaysia\u2019s global entrepreneurs, Sim Choo Kheng, who is both founder and chief executive officer of Sim Leisure Group. The Group has developed and operates more than 300 theme parks around the world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sim will share how he defied extortion for bribes when developing the world\u2019s longest tube water slide set in a natural forest environment at the Penang Escape Theme Park. He was recently featured in the\u00a0cover story<\/a>\u00a0of EdgeProp.my.<\/span><\/p>\n

Established in 2014, CBI is a non-profit apolitical business organization championing business integrity and anti-corruption in the marketplace for a better Malaysia. It has been providing services to the corporate sector engaging with the government of the day including MACC as well as working closely with international organisations such as ASEAN CSR, UNODC, OECD, and USAID.<\/span><\/p>\n
