That is a good question because the world has ideas of Christians.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva,sans-serif;\">Mahatma Gandhi said before these famed words, \u201cI like your Christ; I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva,sans-serif;\">When asked how to evangelize India, Gandhi plainly stated that we need to be more like Christ, do not water down the gospel, focus on love, and learn about the culture and belief system of other\u2019s.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva,sans-serif;\">Like a toothpaste tube being squeezed, what would come out if you were to be <em>squeezed<\/em> under pressure during trials and troubles? (Matt 6:1)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva,sans-serif;\">The third myth is that <em>passion<\/em> for Christ equals to spiritual maturity. (Romans 10:2)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva,sans-serif;\">The fourth myth talks about <em>success <\/em>as a sign of spiritual maturity, i.e. size of congregation, total tithe collected, etc.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva,sans-serif;\">Lastly, we believe in the myth of <em>longevity<\/em>. We believe the longer a person becomes a Christian, the more spiritual the person is. If I have the gift of prophecy\u00a0and can fathom all mysteries\u00a0and all knowledge,\u00a0and if I have a faith\u00a0that can move mountains,\u00a0but do not have love, I am nothing.\u00a0If I give all I possess to the poor\u00a0and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,\u00a0but do not have love, I gain nothing. (1 Cor 13:1-3)<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva,sans-serif;\">He emphasized that the mark of Christ-like leadership is found in John 13:34-35:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva,sans-serif;\">A new command\u00a0I give you: Love one another.\u00a0As I have loved you, so you must love one another.\u00a0By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva,sans-serif;\">Pr Peter asked the audience, <strong>if they had one opportunity to ask Jesus one question, what it would be.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_33883\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-33883\" style=\"width: 512px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-33883 wp-caption aligncenter\" title=\"Juwita Suwito leading worship \" src=\"http:\/\/christianitymalaysia.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Day-1-Juwita-Suwito.jpg\" alt=\"Juwita Suwito leading worship \" width=\"512\" height=\"340\" srcset=\"https:\/\/christianitymalaysia.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Day-1-Juwita-Suwito.jpg 640w, https:\/\/christianitymalaysia.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Day-1-Juwita-Suwito-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-33883\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Juwita Suwito leading worship<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva,sans-serif;\">The question asked in the Bible is this: \u201cWhich is the greatest commandment in the Law?\u201d (Matt 22:36-40)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva,sans-serif;\">The Jewish people have so-overcomplicated the gospel with human rules and traditions, that they became legalism.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva,sans-serif;\">We have also forgotten about the essence of following Jesus. And Jesus basically answered, \u201cYou cannot love God without loving people.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva,sans-serif;\">Jesus replied:\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva,sans-serif;\">\u201cLove the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.\u2019 This is the first and greatest commandment.\u00a0And the second is like it: \u2018Love your neighbor as yourself.\u2019\u00a0All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.\u201d (Matt 22:37-40)<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva,sans-serif;\">However, what is <strong><em>new <\/em><\/strong>about the command that Jesus gave (John 13:34-35), compared to the Old Testament? <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva,sans-serif;\">The <em>new <\/em>command is to <strong>love one another <em>as I have loved you.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_33882\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-33882\" style=\"width: 512px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-33882 wp-caption aligncenter\" title=\"Pr Peter Tanchi\" src=\"http:\/\/christianitymalaysia.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Day-1-Peter-1.jpg\" alt=\"Pr Peter Tanchi\" width=\"512\" height=\"340\" srcset=\"https:\/\/christianitymalaysia.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Day-1-Peter-1.jpg 640w, https:\/\/christianitymalaysia.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Day-1-Peter-1-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-33882\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pr Peter Tanchi<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva,sans-serif;\"><strong>How did Jesus love us?<\/strong> Pr Peter Tan shared 4 ways.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva,sans-serif;\"><strong>Love is a commitment that transcends feelings. <\/strong>It is a choice we make according to our Will. Like a mother\u2019s love for a baby, she is committed to attend to her crying baby regardless of how she feels. This is unconditional love, which is so different from the Hollywood kind of love (i.e. selfish love) we see.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva,sans-serif;\"><strong>Secondly, Jesus said \u2018love one another,\u2019 <\/strong>which is said during the last supper to his disciples that included Judas who would betray him and also Peter who would deny him. (John 13:34) With that said, Jesus tells us to love <em>imperfect<\/em> people. And the first \u2018one another\u2019 to love is our family members, whose flaws we are so familiar with.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva,sans-serif;\"><strong>Thirdly, love is seeking the highest good for the people we love. <\/strong>It is not sentimentalism, where we mindlessly shower love for that person. Sometimes, in seeking good for the person, we need to exercise discipline and withdrawal of privileges.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva,sans-serif;\"><strong>Lastly, love involves personal sacrifice <\/strong>with the verse, \u201cBy this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva,sans-serif;\">In conclusion, <strong>to love like Christ or true love\u00a0is a <em>commitment<\/em> to <em>imperfect<\/em> people to seek <em>their highest good<\/em>, which involves <em>personal sacrifice<\/em>.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva,sans-serif;\">Love is the mark of a Christ-like leadership.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva,sans-serif;\">And to love like Christ, we need to grasp and understand the power of God\u2019s love. We need God\u2019s help to love like that because it\u2019s very difficult of us to love this way.
