Bishop Benjamin from Hyderabad was born and brought up in a Christian family. He recalled how his family was very poor; they lived in a tiny space with a mud floor and a leaf roof, and that was their shelter they called home. He grew up in a difficult situation where the food he ate were precious to him.
“There were many times where my mother would cut one egg into four pieces, then each person would have a piece of egg. I remember in that poverty-stricken stage, that I wouldn’t dare to eat my egg. I’d just look at it and then eat my rice and some ‘sambal’,” said Benjamin who recently shared his testimony at a Full Gospel Business Men Fellowship’s meeting at Summit on the 10th of September.
As a small boy, Benjamin’s mother would tell him the story of Jesus. At a mere age of seven, he already knew how much Jesus loved Him and how God gave His only son to save him.
“My mother asked me if I would like to receive Jesus into my heart and so I received Him into my heart,” he shared.
Through the rough patches of his life, he emerged triumphantly! Now he is a soon-to-be grandfather with a loving family and travels the world.
His experience has indeed taught him the importance of allowing children to have their story time.
“We need to help them receive Jesus into their hearts and tell them that this Almighty, great, glorious and gracious God lives in them; that no matter where they go and no matter what they encounter, they can call upon Him and God will deliver them from trouble! That is such an important truth, both for the little babies and for the big boys and girls! Amen,” he shared.
The story of Jesus gave him hope for the future and provided him with strength, so much so that he evolved into a young man who would stand in front of a crowd with his other young friends and tell people about Jesus. When God revealed to Him that there was a need for the people in the rural areas to know Him, Benjamin stepped out and stayed in the rural areas and continued to preach to those in need.
“It was beautiful, God anointed and filled us with the Holy Spirit and the gift of speaking in tongues,” he said.
Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you. (Luke 6:38)
“After 35 years, we were able to plant several hundred Churches in India and outside of India with the glory of God! It was a slow change but God blessed me and satisfied my heart to serve Him,” he shared.
Through his humble walk to serve God, where he put people first before himself, and though he was poor and never thought he would marry, God blessed Benjamin with the finest girl who was born into a family with chauffeurs; a girl who loved him despite his background. God took his desire and took him to greater heights that he would have never even imagined.
Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. (Psalm 34:7)
“Today I stand before you, not as a poor, broken, struggling man; I stand before you blessed!” he said.
Favour and victory is yours if you have the passion and desire for God’s heart, for within you lies the authority to make a difference in this world that God has given us and granted us stewards of.
Then he will fill your barns with grain, and your vats will overflow with good wine. (Proverbs 3:10)
But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (Matthew 6:30-33)
