A child’s prayer is precious in The Lord’s eyes.
Timothy Tang watched his son Ethan helplessly battled cancer, as his fraying body grew thinner and his eyes sunk deeper. But amidst the grief, lies hope. His son saw his wish fulfilled before he died at the young age of 24.
On May 8, the Full Gospel Businessmen (FGB) Fellowship of Subang Jaya USJ 1 at Summit invited Timothy Tang to share his story of knowing Christ from a child’s prayer.
His son was preparing to go overseas for his studies when he suddenly collapsed and was later diagnosed with cancer.
The whole year after that marked a tsunami of unrest for Timothy and his family- chauffeuring his son to and fro the hospital for chemotherapy, depletion of his bank account and selling of his three houses, searching spiritual healing doctors high and low to rescue his son, and finally facing a job retrench to top it all!
“My son told me not to spend any more money because he cannot be cured,” said Timothy who also spent a hefty sum for spiritual healing but to no avail. None of the spiritual healers could cure his son. But there was still one faith he never attempted: the Christian faith.
“I believe there must be a God who can cure my son,” Timothy said.
After Ethan asked him to give up finding for spiritual healers, his wife’s friend called her one day to invite her to visit the cell group. And to her surprise, Timothy came as well with his wife.
During worship, the couple felt that their body grew warmer. How could it be when they just completed their drive in the cooling rain? The pastor told them that it was the Holy Spirit but Timothy did not believe him.
“Then, I asked my wife if we should visit the church the coming Sunday?” said Timothy.
So, the couple went to church. And when they stepped in, they felt the same warm sensation again and were moved to tears. The pastor in the church also gave them the same answer to explain about the warm feeling.
“My wife and I thought… why don’t we bring our son to the cell group the following week? And when we returned to ask him, he was so happy,” said Timothy choking in tears.
“He was so happy because he had been praying for us to accept Jesus. He said: Ah Pah, I am already a Christian. I dare not tell you but I would hide in my room and read the Bible,” he added.
Ethan went to the cell group with the couple, beaming with joy.
“He was so happy sitting in the corner at the cell group… even though he was suffering. It was so painful for him,” said Timothy. “He said to me: Ah Pah, you have changed a lot.”
That night after the worship, Ethan declared that The Lord would heal him! But Timothy found it hard to believe since his son could hardly breathe nor walk. Returning home, Ethan had a peaceful rest, which only lasted till the next night before he collapsed and was admitted into the Intensive Care Unit.
That night was his last night.
Drawing a weak smile in ICU, he informed his Ah Pah and Ah Mah that he would be leaving.
“My wife pretended not to hear and asked if he wanted a glass of water… He then shouted three times: 'Jesus I love you! Jesus I love you! Jesus I love you!' How can he shout when he can't even talk?" said Timothy. "His last words were: Jesus, please bless my family.”
During his funeral, the Holy Spirit was upon his families and friends that 12 of them accepted Christ.
Today, not only Timothy Tang and his wife were saved, Timothy has a stable job and is actively involved in the prison ministry, Vietnamese ministry and also the Burmese ministry. God is faithful and truly, He has fulfilled His Promise to bless Ethan's parents.
“Why are you worried? The bird in the sky is not even worried,” said Timothy.
Matthew 6:25-27;32-34
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]?
32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
A child’s prayer is precious and powerful in God’s eyes. How great and faithful is our God!
