You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free (John. 8:32)

It’s appalling to discover, that in today’s world we find so many different churches which has apparently originated from man rather than from God. It’s more about ownership than stewardship! When you are running with a distorted view about stewardship you have to struggle to create an artificial religion with no power.

It’s a tragedy to discover that despite using the same Bible and yet teaching a different type of erroneous truth cleverly orchestrated by human idea only to lead people astray.

John 8:32 You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.

When you understand the truth correctly about any subject for that matter, you will be set free. Jesus said “I will build My church and the gates of hell will not stand against it (Matt.16:18)

Any system or religion that brings you under bondage and suppression cannot be “The Truth”. The truth always makes us free from sin, free from fear, free from oppression, free from anxiety, free from any human tradition, free to live and serve God out of our freedom.

Never forget the only freedom that God created us with is the “freedom of free-will choice”.

The most precious gift that God has ever given to mankind is “our own “independent will power”.  Nobody except you alone can exercise this free-will choice in your life.

Therefore true worship is not a worship out of compulsion nor out of fear.. true worship is a worship out of your own free-will choice because of your love for God which originates from an intimate relationship with Him.

So the truth about worship is a very important subject for us to understand. Because that’s what we are going to do in all eternity- we are going to worship God up there! We are not going to preach there, we are not going to pray there, we are going to worship God up there.

Jesus spoke about true worshipers and He also spoke about empty worshippers.

I want to show you 2 verses:

Mark 7:6: Jesus said this; “people honour Me with their lips but their heart is far from it.” You know what the people did in the O.T? They sang a lot and praised a lot, they made a lot of noise but Jesus said their heart was not in it. It was only filled with words!  These people honour Me with their lips but their hearts are far away from it.

The next verse Mark 7: 7 says “in vain do they worship me..” That literally means their worship was empty. The music was nice! Their voices were great! But their worship was empty. In spite of all the loud and beautiful voice that filled the atmosphere, their worship was empty because God was absent in their midst. When God is absent in your midst you are wasting your time! Because nothing will happen and nothing will change.

In contrast to that Jesus spoke in John 4: 23; Jesus spoke to the Samaritan woman. He spoke about the day the hour that is coming and when the true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and in Truth for the Father seeks such to be his worshipers (John 4:1-54). In other words what He is saying to her is that it hasn’t come yet, but it’s coming.

It means up until the time of Adam nobody could worship the Father in Spirit and Truth.

Man is body, soul, and spirit. People worshiping in the O.T was confined to the body for example 1) clapping hands, 2) praising with their voices that is body,  3) soul- that is with mind, emotions, and feelings; it all sounds very great but there is another important component that touches God’s heart and that is our born-again Spirit. Unfortunately that was absent therefore they could not worship God in Spirit.

But Jesus said the hour is now coming that the true worshipers in the New Covenant will worship God in Spirit and Truth because we are now the temple of the Holy Spirit.

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own.. ( 1 Cor.6:19)

You know what? This is the area that the devil is playing around and deceiving many Christians today. The hour came on the day of Pentecost but Jesus also says now is the hour that is coming. How many of you know something? When Jesus was here on earth He was the first human being to worship the Father in Spirit and in Truth. He paved the way through the Spirit of God on the day of Pentecost to worship God through spirit and truth.

I want to illustrate to you a clearer picture.

In the O.T the tabernacle of God was a picture of man. The tabernacle had three parts, just like we are made of three parts: body, soul, and spirit.

The tabernacle of a God 1) had an outer court that was visible. (Just like our human Body)  2) and it had two hidden parts called (a) The holy place and (b) And the most holy place. (similar to our soul and spirit which is hidden).

Between the holy place and the most holy place there was a thick veil or curtain made up of 10 different curtains joined together separating the two areas.  Indicating that nobody could enter into the most holy place, into God’s presence.  Please take note, God did not dwell in the outer court or the holy place but He dwelt in the most holy place. Nobody could enter there.

When Jesus died on the cross the veil in the trample was rent (torn) from top to bottom. The way into the most holy place was opened once and for all. The way into our spirit was opened so that the Holy Spirit could come and dwell within us. This is the significance of the rending of the veil so now we can worship God in the spirit. It’s not just a beautiful picture. It’s something that can change our whole life if you can believe that God desires the best for you to worship Him in spirit and truth.

Worship is not coming and singing some songs and going off feeling good and thinking that you have worshiped God. True worship is not limited by time or program. That’s not worship at all.

Worship is an issue of the heart. Worship is touching the heartbeat of God. It’s worshiping in the spirit not just with words and mind and emotions and feelings. It’s worshiping in the Spirit. It’s giving God His rightful place, stepping aside and allowing Him to lead.

A substitute in place of God. When something else takes the place of God in your life. When something else becomes a higher priority in your lives then you are not able to worship God. That’s empty worship! God will never accept such worship.

To worship God is to put Him first in your life. To worship God is to make Him the centre of your life. A true worshiper is a person who honours God in everything in your life. A true worshiper is filtering every concern of yours through God. To put God no.1 in your life. To worship God is to allow God to govern every moment of your life with His divine principles (Matt.6:33).

Revelation 4:10-11

10) the twenty-four elders will fall down before Him who sits on the throne, and will worship Him who lives forever and ever, and will cast their crowns before the throne, saying, 11 “Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they [a]existed, and were created.”

They laid their crows down and bowed before Him in total surrender, total submission, and total humility. They refuse to take credit for anything. “No Lord I don’t deserve that, it’s all you. All that I have is from You and if people are blessed through me all glory goes to You. I am nothing without You.”

You have to cast your crown before Jesus in order to be a true worshiper of Christ. You need to cast down your crown and empty yourself of everything and be prepared to acknowledge that all glory goes to Him. That is true worship.
