“God teach me lessons for living so I can stay the course.” (Psalm 119:33)

We should never forget that we are mere instruments or earthen vessels used by God in His kingdom.  Whatever area of ministry God has called us into, even when leading someone to Christ, we are only a mere channel through which God chooses to work.

And yet, O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay, and you are the potter. We all are formed by your hand.( Isaiah 64:8)

People do not come to Christ because we choose to do so, people come to the knowledge of the Lord because it’s God who makes the choice. It’s God who reveals Himself to whoever He chooses to do so.  Jesus said: You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you (John 15:16).

We are merely making ourselves available for God’s service. Therefore there is no way one should take too much credit in this area. In order to stay the course and be effective men and women of God we need the right perspective of who we are in Christ.

There are tough times and battles ahead of us. We are in a warfare fighting an enemy that is unseen within and without. And unless we walk in humility with a teachable spirit you are not going to get there; neither are you going to get any help and support from God. You are merely going to do it on your own; fighting the enemy all alone with your own agenda and ultimately you will lose the battle!

With millennials representing the largest age-group by far in any church today, what type of generation we need to address at this present moment where the enemy is in absolute control? They think different, they see different, they perceive different, they are born into an emerging world of digital technology and have grown up surrounded by smart phones, laptops, tablets and other gadgets. They are elevated to a level of living contrary to the ways of God.

To put it in a nutshell, the world has become so intellectualised  and sophisticated, a completely different culture of living that they view everything from a different perspective altogether. Indeed they are a tough set of people to manage and worst of all they think they have got it all and everything figured out in their mind. Apparently the chemical dopamine plays a major role in their brain. Their expectations are proportionately high. Spiritually speaking you may say there is a missing piece of link in this generation but worldly philosophy will beg to differ from our view.

The crucial question is, as ministers and servants of God, are we sensitive to this generation’s needs? Have we invested some time to understand this culture? Seriously if we want to rescue this generation we must be able raise our bar to their level of intelligence and be able to integrate with them according to their spiritual needs.

Unfortunately we are still lagging behind because we refuse to change strategies. We are unwilling to invest enough time and effort to understand how the present world operates and upgrade ourselves and develop a counter force against the enemies’ strategy.

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge (Hosea 4:6)

The most sorrowful state in the life of a person are those stubborn group of people who are unwilling to move and flow in the seasons of God. And the greatest hindrance to their set-back is their fixed thought pattern of old attitudes and outdated mindsets.

Here is what we need to understand, old methodology and recycled messages will not work in this present time frame. It becomes outdated and redundant in this generation. It will not be able to impress the millennials and get their focus. When will we ever realize! When will we ever wake up! That people get easily bored and they lose interest listening to the same monotonous sermons full of theological stuff without any depth and revelation? They are unable to contain what in your (boxed) opinion may seem the best for them.

Most of the time we get carried away with our own thinking and opinion, little realizing what the other persons mindset can take. We have often mistaken that our coat fits everybody else. And this is the greatest spiritual blindness with the human race.

You know what? The greatest message that you and I can use to influence the mind of this generation is the message of our life. Your transformed character is the greatest testimony in life. Nothing can impact anyone greater than your own story. There is no other story like yours. Your testimony is more powerful than a sermon you can ever preach to anyone. The reason why people view pastors and ministers as poor salesman is because we are unable to deliver.

People are looking for reality message today. Is the word you preach applicable to the real world? In this complex and confused world that we live in with economic pressure on the one end and social pressure on the other. Society wants to hear something that can capture the reality in this world.

The moment you start to relate your true experience their curiosity and interest is suddenly awakened. There is no greater anointing than the anointing that flows in your own life experience in your Christian walk.

So, what is our relevant tool to reach this sophisticated world? We must realise that we cannot be recycling our old ways and out-dated methods to reach the world. All you have to do is use your own story to build a bridge and allow Jesus to walk across into their hearts.

You will be surprised that your story will bypass every intellectual prejudice and boundaries. Many people who don’t necessarily accept the authority of the Bible will respect your personal experience. Paul used his life story to share the Gospel on several occasions.

Your story is all about what God has taught you throughout your life. The lessons you have learnt from pain and hurts. The experience you have gained from failure and disappointments. What has God taught you from lack of money. What have we learnt from family, church, friends?  Literally it’s a transformation of your character in this journey of life in the Lord. Wise people develop the habit of extracting lessons from everyday life and using it with Biblical principles to reach people.
