Philip.4:6-7 says do not worry about anything, but with prayer and supplication with thanksgiving make your requests known to God and then the peace of God will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Do you often deal with anxiety? Are you consumed with worry? While we can never be completely free from worry, the Bible shows us how to minimize worry and anxiety in our lives.
What is worry anyway? Can worry produce anything? Worry is a strong negative emotional force that drains you out of your joy, peace and well-being. It kills you at every level. It is a chronic concern. Chronic worrying affects your daily life so much that it interferes with your lifestyle.
It’s an event or encounter you are unable to control, it’s a situation that frightens and torments you, and it’s a problem that keeps you awake when you are supposed to be sleeping. The combination of all these factors will leave you drained, depressed and dysfunctional in the end. When worrying becomes excessive, it can lead to feelings of high anxiety and even cause you to be physically ill.
Worry can cause ulcers and mental problems that can have destructive health effects that shorten life. However no amount of worry will add even one hour to one’s life (Matthew 6:27). Therefore, why worry? The Bible teaches that we should deal with each day’s problems when they occur and not be obsessed with future concerns that may not happen (Matthew 6:34). Take a day at a time because there is enough trouble for each to deal with in our lives.
SATAN USES FEAR TO DESTROY THE MIND AND THE BODY
Fear destroys you at every level but faith creates hope and expectation that you can count on the faithfulness of God.
“God’s Word is health to all our flesh” (Proverbs 3:8)
Philip.4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
If you happen to reflect your memory back to the things that took place in your life last year or even last week for that matter, you would discover that most of the concerns that you have been worrying about, never really took place!
Psychological studies have concluded that a large proportion of the human psyche, energy, and time are wasted unnecessarily in an unproductive manner because of our overwhelming worries. A large proportion of what we worry about, after all it’s unreal and never really happens in the end. You know what? Just imagine most of the time we worry for no good reason at all! And if we continue in this attitude and mindset we end up dying early.
WORRY IS LIKE A ROCKING CHAIR THAT WILL EAT UP YOUR ENERGY AND GETS YOU NOWHERE.
THE MINDSET WHICH IS INFLUENCED BY FEAR IS AN INDEPENDENT MINDSET WITHOUT A HOPE IN GOD.
When our faith is not on God we will always be filled with unnecessary anxiety, fear and worry. Here is something very crucial that you need to understand. What you believe is what you will receive. You will discover that because of our faithless mindset, the things that we don’t want it to happen, we are actually bringing about the manifestation of the very things that we are focusing on with fear. In fact we are operating a counterforce to faith. If we are operating in fear, we are actually bringing this reality into our life because fear is a spiritual force. FEAR IS A SPIRIT.
Job was acknowledged by God Himself that he was a righteous servant of God. He was an excellent and upright man that He applauded him before satan. God challenged satan if satan could find anybody like his servant Job in the earth!
Despite how God thought of him, Job said when he was afflicted in (Job.3:25 )”For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me, And what I dreaded has happened to me.” The very fear of what he did not want it to happen, happened!
When you and I are not prepared to renew our mind in line with what God says in His word we are left with no choice but to be influenced by the world’s way of thinking.
“As a man thinketh in his heart so is he” (Pro.23:7)
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)
FEAR IS DEVELOPED BY MEDITATING ON THE LIES OF THE DEVIL
Dr. Charles Mayo says, “there is a growing mountain of evidence to suggest that worry is the chief contributor to depression, nervous breakdowns, high blood pressure, heart attacks and early death. I have never known a man die from hard work, but I have known a lot who died from worry.”
There was a research study that was carried out at King’s College London on breast cancer patients who had undergone mastectomy. The findings showed that seven out of ten women with a strong faith were alive ten years later while four out of five who felt hopeless and worried because of their condition met an early death.
We cannot eradicate worry and anxiety totally; that of course would be unrealistic but we can control the atmosphere by viewing it from a different angle, from God’s point of view so to speak.
Of course, for those who do not know the Savior, worry and anxiety will be part of life. But to those who have given their lives to Him, Jesus promised, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).
Where is your hope and trust rested on despite the challenges that confronts you in life? Is it based on the way the world thinks or is it rested on the God who created you? Because He lives all fear is gone. Because I know He holds my future. Life is worth the living because He lives!
