Movies for Charity

18 Sept 2013 by Donna Uning CM –

The Kuching Ministers Fellowship (KMF), Rural Sarawak Preschool Project (RuSa) and Scripture Resources are coming together to organize a charitable screening for four inspirational movies over two nights, on October 19 and 20, 2013 at the Star Cineplex here.

According to Scripture Resources’ head coordinator Chris Jong, the screenings are held to raise fund for setting up more preschools in Sarawak. “We do not want rural children to be disadvantaged in early childhood education,” he said. The group also provides quality training to prepare preschool teachers to teach.

“We enroll students from four years old, so that they can start their early childhood education just like what the city kids are doing,” he added. The preschool project is a project undertaken by Kuching Ministers Fellowship (KMF).

“Since January 2013, we have set up ten preschools from Lundu to as far as Kanowit. We have approved another six to be set up as soon as our teachers are trained later this year,” he said.

“Setting up of schools in the interior requires funding; and maintaining them is even harder,” he continued calling churches and corporate sectors to help them educate the rural children.

Part of the fund raised from the charity shows will also be used to support the HELP Community Learning Centre (HCLC), a ministry under Scripture Resources. HCLC is a charitable school for Myanmar and Pakistani refugee children who cannot enrol to study in government schools. The school is located in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur. The school operates preschool classes to Primary 5 and a virtual school. There are about 130 students in the school.

Scripture Resources will also be setting up a day care center soon, operating from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM to help local single mothers and refugees.

“We encourage Christians to bring non-believers to see these evangelical movies,” urged Jong.

The tickets are priced at RM50 and RM100 per person. Movie titles include 'Facing the Giants' and 'Soul Surfer' on October 19 and 'Letters to God' and 'Flywheel' on October 20 at the Star Cineplex here. Movies start at 7:30 pm. Contact KMF for more information or call Nelson at 019 826 6623 or Chris at 012 8730 380.
